The City of Markham is committed to the health and safety of its employees and the community. We are working closely with our Public Health colleagues at the regional, provincial and national levels concerning the evolving novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

With growing concerns around COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution, all City facilities are closed to the public until further notice to help break the chain of transmission of the virus.

As part of the Provincial announcement to close all non-essential services, the City of Markham is advising all community tennis clubs that clubhouses and respective tennis court facilities will remain closed until further notice.

We appreciate your understanding.

Sincerely,

Jason Tsien, Recreation Services

Updating MTC MEmbers as of March 13

MTC Update

We apologize for the long delay in getting back to our membership on the bubble project and our court availability this summer. The City has a very complex set of tasks ahead of them, but they were finally able to share with us a more detailed project schedule. The good news is we have made what we believe is a fair arrangement to minimize disruption to the summer season.

Plans as of March 13th:

  • Nets and Screens up mid April on all courts. Members can use these courts weather permitting as usual. Team tryouts will also be scheduled for April at the club.
  • Club officially opens May 1st with the newly winterized clubhouse. We will have all 6 courts for May-July and will roll out our full set of programs, lessons and activities (see program highlights below).
  • Mark your calendar for our Grand Opening and Public Open House on Saturday, June 6 from Noon-4 pm and includes a FREE BBQ, meet the pros and visits from our ward Councillor and deputy mayor. Bring a friend or neighbor who might be considering a membership.
  • Starting August 1st, we will be down to 3 courts (South courts 1-3) while construction starts for the grade beam and fence on North courts 4-6. Members will still have clubhouse access.
  • These 3 courts will be used primarily by the summer camps and the pros during the day, with member access before 9am and after 4 pm and all weekends, but we will negotiate some additional court access at Angus Glen or Morgan Park.
  • Any remaining Inter county matches in August will be played as “away” games to avoid any further interruptions at the Club.
  • Starting September 1st, grade-beam and fence work will begin on Courts 1-3 while members have access to Courts 4-6 and      the clubhouse for the remainder of the summer season.
  • Winter bubble opens Oct 1st
